2010 Annapolis OpenĀ®
Officer Grant Turner Memorial
Baseball Tournament

The Annapolis OpenĀ® Youth Baseball Tournament began operating in 2005. The first tournament was held in March 2006 at General's Highway Corridor Park in conjunction with Riva Park, GORC Park, Arden Park, Randazzo Softball Park, Joe Cannon Stadium, Harundale Youth Sports and Gambrills Athletic Club.
The Open is in memory of Grant Turner, a young man who loved baseball in his brief life. This tournament supports area high schools with college scholarships each year.
The Annapolis Open is planned for March 19, 20 and 21 in 2010. It is sponsored by General's Highway Athletic Association with support from the Maryland Diamond Umpires Association, members of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police (MdTA) and Phil and Nancy Turner.
The Tournament is planning to field teams in U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 age categories.
Last year we had 100 teams participate in this tournament from all over Mid-Atlantic region and Canada.

For more information, particularly about the 2010 tournament, remember to visit our web site www.AnnapolisOpen.org.
Registration begins November 1, 2010.

How many teams are you going to take in 12U? Looks like there are 28 total right now including Registered not Confirmed.

There will be some changes to the format for the AO this year. We will go to a 2 pool play games and then everyone will be reseeded on Saturday nite and have there final game on Sunday. for example

12u will have 28 teams all teams will have 2 pool play games either

1 friday and 1 saturday

or

2 on saturday

Then all teams will be seeded 1-28 and the top half (1-14) will play in the playoff bracket starting Sunday morning. the remaining teams (15-28) will get one final game sunday morning and be finished.

This will be the case for all ages.

I feel that this will be the best way for us to go to try and eleviate some of the confusion on sunday about play off teams and where they will be going. All teams will know where to play on Saturday evening. Also the communication issues should help out.

Have a Happy New Year Everyone

76 DAYS UNTIL THE ANNAPOLIS OPEN

wouldn't 1 thru 16 work better?

at 14 or 16, 4 games in one day is a lot of games to play that early in the season. might be better to go with seven 4 team divisions and take 7 division winners and a wild card or expand to 32, if you have the fields.

you guys really grew fast. congrats on the popularity. condolences on the headaches.

as of 3/2/10 I went out and walked some fields today and was kinda suprised that some of the fields were pretty clear of snow. We still have some work to do to get them ready but we are confident that we will be ready to go. I plan on getting the schedules out on soon I just wanna make sure the fields are coming together this week.

Thank you all for being as patient as possible no one could have planned for this and we are doing everything in our power to get this tournament in.

If you have any questions send me a PM and let me know whats up

Beau

Beau:

Great job communicating everything. We've been blessed with the best weather imaginable. 3 weeks ago, we were wondering if this tournament would even be played. Should be a great weekend of baseball. Thanks for putting on a 1ST CLASS EVENT.
